PHOTOS: Hamlet vs. Kannapolis Post 115

HAMLET — Playing in its first of two games Sunday, Post 49 extended its winning streak.

Reaching win No. 5 to start the season, the Hamlet American Legion baseball team edged Kannapolis Post 115 2-0.

The first of three games in the George Whitfield Sunday Showdown, Hamlet used a six-inning outing by Evan Hodges to earn the victory. 

Hodges gave up five hits but stranded seven base runners. He also had six strikeouts in his first start of the summer.

Dylan Tilson pitched one inning of relief and picked up the save, leaving the tying run at second base and the go-ahead run at first.

Austin Mooring had two singles, including one that plated a run. Maddox Locklear also had two hits, as JD Scarbrough roped a triple and scored Landon Taylor.

Post 49 will close its Sunday doubleheader at 7 p.m. against the Garner Nationals at Memorial Park.
