ROCKINGHAM — Thunder Alley will be roaring with the sound of classic stock cars Saturday for Rockingham Speedway’s third annual Open House.

There are two exhibition races from Stock Car Classics slated for the event, with several practice runs earlier in the day.

Rockingham is one of two “home tracks” for SCC, the other being Darlington Raceway. The cars range in age and style, from a Paul Goldsmith 1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 to more modern models.

The Open House will also include demonstrations by MB Drift and the Tarheel Sports Car Club, both of which have held events at the Rock in recent years.

MB Drift found a new home at Rockingham in late 2020 and early 2021 after its original home track, Myrtle Beach Speedway, was shuddered.

The grassroots drifting organization is midway through its fourth season at the Rock, with three events left for the year, including the Summer Matsuri the final weekend in July.

The event will close out with a raffle and a performance by Rockingham native Erik Hawks, backed by the Hard Luck Band.

The Open House was originally planned for May, but rescheduled due to the threat of bad weather.

The event is free and open to the public.
