Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Tharpe, born on April 14, 1949 in Scotland County, peacefully departed this life and entered her heavenly home on July 12, 2024. Her 75 years of life was well-lived, filled with love, generosity, and devotion to her family and friends.
She married her love, Thomas Tharpe, on May 5, 1979, and for 45 years they raised their kids and grandkids with love.
Sarah was the daughter of the late Joe and Edith Mauldin.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Tony Mauldin and Mitchell Tharpe; grandsons, Dustin Tucker and George Clark Jr.; great-grandson, Karver Riggles; and sisters, Margaret Butler, Faye Clark and Mary Cribb.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Thomas “Tom” Tharpe; daughters, Melissa Prevatte Chavis (Wade), Brittany Tharpe Stewart (Brian), Sondra Cain and Michelle Tharpe; her bonus daughter, Judy Ayer; grandchildren, Tim Curry, Victor Pankey, Walter Pankey, Deborah Tucker, Kandida Chavis, Kellie Driggers, Brittany Mauldin, and Paige Weatherford; great-grandchildren, Melissa Curry, Kaydence Johnson, Brandon Driggers, Christopher Driggers, Kanslee Collins, Kanon Collins, Jaxon Riggles and Jake Smith; daughter-in-law, Earline Locklear; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Sarah was a devoted member of Springhill Wesleyan Church in Hamlet, where she taught Sunday school and Wednesday nights, and was involved in many other church functions too numerous to count. Sarah loved her church family. She especially loved spending time with family and friends. Sarah will be truly missed by all that loved her.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.
The funeral service will be Friday, July 19, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Springhill Wesleyan Church, Hamlet, with the Rev. Stanley Stogner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
