RCSO: Woman owing child support caught with meth

ROCKINGHAM — A woman who reportedly owes thousands in child support payments was recently caught with several grams of meth.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, investigators with the Community Impact Team conducted a traffic stop on Osborne Road Aug. 10.

The initial reason for the traffic stop was not given in an Aug. 13 press release.

While identifying the occupants of the vehicle, investigators reportedly learned that 36-year-old Veronica Lyn Bowman, of Rockingham, had an outstanding order for arrest for failure to pay child support.

Bowman was taken into custody by a patrol deputy. The deputy reportedly noticed Bowman “moving and acting suspicious” while she was in the back of the patrol car.

Bowman was removed from the car and, the deputy reportedly found a baggie with 15.9 grams of methamphetamine that the defendant was allegedly trying to stuff in the back seat.

In addition to being served with the order for arrest, Bowman was charged with possession of methamphetamine. She is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $2,500 secured bond on the meth charge, as well as a $2.230.24 cash bond for child support.

Bowman is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 22 on the criminal charge and Aug. 15 for child support.

Online records appear to show Bowman has no other pending charges or prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
