HAMLET — Mackenzie Webb is moving on up in the Seaboard City.

The Hamlet native was promoted from city planner to assistant city manager on Aug. 16, according to a press release posted to the city’s Facebook page on Aug. 26.

Webb, who holds both an undergraduate degree and a Masters in Public Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, started working with the city in 2023.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve my hometown in this capacity,” Webb said in the release. “Hamlet is a city with immense potential, and I look forward to serving the community I love, alongside the dedicated team of Hamlet and City Council.”

Webb will supervise several departments and be in charge when Interim City Manager Lane Bailey, who only works part time, is not in town.

According to the release, Bailey has “been very impressed” with Webb since he started working with the city in June, following the departure of Matthew Christian.

Christian served as city manager for four years and now holds that same position with Archdale.

Webb’s promotion “will also help the city as they continue to look for a permanent city manager,” according to Bailey.

“Mackenzie has proven to be a key member of the management team demonstrating dedication, superior reasoning skills and enthusiasm,” Mayor Amy Guinn said in the release. “I look forward to working with her in her new capacity as assistant city manager.”

The public is invited to meet Bailey and Webb at a reception scheduled for 2-4 p.m. Aug. 29 at City Hall.
