Melissa Kay Rice went home to her heavenly father Aug. 24, 2024 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
She was the daughter of Robert and Vivian Short of Rockingham, who preceded her in death.
Her brother, Robbie Short Jr., also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her three children, Jonathan Vilela (Sydney) of Beatrice, Nebraska; Kaylee Olson (Bennie) of Omaha, Nebraska; and Kaden Rice of Texas. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Kash Vilela, and Jett and Journey Olson; as well as Jennifer (James) Shingleton (Short). She left behind many good friends who loved her dearly and will miss her for the rest of their lives, including her best friend, Ada Hardwick.
Melissa was unique in her ability to forgive, love and give. She was selfless and beautiful in a unique and precious way. Those who encountered her can tell you she was as rare as the insidious cancer that took her away from us far too soon.
She absolutely loved the Dallas Cowboys and University of Alabama football teams. Sundays were spent with her actively cheering her teams to victory.
Her grandbabies were the center of her universe. In addition, she adored Stevie Nicks and Richmond Raiders football. She was always keen to catch a Raiders game when she visited her Rockingham home.
Funeral plans will be held in Nebraska.
