OBITUARY: Gretchen White

Gretchen White, 56, of Mineral, Virginia, passed at UVA Hospital on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024 at 2:15 a.m. after complications from an infection.

Gretchen was born to Charlie (deceased) and Jackie White in Danville, Virginia, on July 8, 1968. Gretchen was wicked smart, having attended University of North Carolina for all of her degrees: undergrad in 1989, a masters in history in 1991, and finally her law degree in 1994. Gretchen had a deep love of antiques and silly signs, and her house has been filled with many different collections from tea sets to presidential campaign yard signs.

Seven and a half years ago she suffered a massive stroke and her life was forever changed. She and her loving husband, Matt Jaroneski, moved to Mineral, Virginia, and some of her dreams were realized: chickens; a home she could navigate; lots of roses; and an herb garden.

She will be sorely missed by those who survive her: her mother, Jackie White, in Rockingham; her loving and dedicated husband, Matt Jaroneski, who will rely on his daughters, Meredith Jaroneski with her husband Ben Randall in Raleigh, and Miranda Jaroneski in Richmond, Virginia; along with her cousins in North and South Carolina and extended adopted families too numerous to count.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Louisa Humane Society, PO. Box 1837, Louisa, VA 23093; or the Mineral United Methodist Church, PO Box 276, Mineral, VA 23117, who in a short time embraced her and made her feel loved and appreciated; or First Presbyterian Church, New Shoes for Christmas, 904 Fayetteville Road, Rockingham, NC 28379.

A celebration of life will be held at Mineral United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 at 2 p.m. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024 at 11 a.m.
