ASHEBORO — Taking a break from Sandhills Athletic Conference play Wednesday, Richmond’s volleyball team continued to struggle.
Losing in straight sets to Uwharrie Charter Academy (14-2), the Lady Raiders dropped their fifth consecutive match.
The 3-0 loss was also the team’s fourth time being shut out in its last five contests.
Scores went in favor of the Lady Eagles 25-11, 25-11 and 25-16.
The Lady Raiders (5-7, 1-4 SAC) get an extended break before returning to the court next Tuesday.
That home match will feature Scotland High School (5-2, 1-2 SAC) and close the first round of regular season conference play. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
Third set blues continue for JV Lady Raiders
In junior varsity action Tuesday, the JV Lady Raiders forced a third set but couldn’t close the door.
Also on the road at Uwharrie Charter Academy, Richmond suffered a 2-1 loss.
Scores by set were 17-25, 25-17 and 7-15.
“Our passes were much better tonight and we didn’t miss a serve,” head coach Melissa Dennis said. “We just couldn’t find the momentum to finish. Uwharrie made a lot of aggressive plays and was big at the net.”
The JV volleyball team (5-6, 2-3 SAC) also has a home match with Scotland next Tuesday. Action will begin at 5 p.m.
