ROCKINGHAM — Another full slate of local high school sports will close out the final full week of September.

All six of Richmond Senior High School’s fall sports programs will be in action, facing mostly Sandhills Athletic Conference opponents.

Girls’ golf set for two match

The Richmond girls’ golf team was rained out last week, which in turn gives the Lady Raiders two chances on the course this week.

Competing in a pair of nine-hole matches, Richmond will go against the other SAC programs at Sanford Golf Course Monday.

That will be followed by a make-up match in the Lady Raiders’ lone home event at Foxfire Resort and Golf Wednesday.

Players will begin teeing off both days at 3 p.m.

Volleyball continues conference schedule

With the final stretch of the regular season now on the docket, the Lady Raiders (6-9, 2-5 SAC) will try to continue their momentum from last week.

With a season-long losing streak behind it, Richmond will seek redemption wins against Pinecrest and Hoke County high schools.

The Lady Raiders will host Pinecrest (10-6, 6-0 SAC) Tuesday and travel to Hoke County (10-3, 4-3 SAC) Thursday. Both matches will start at 6 p.m.

The junior varsity volleyball team (7-7, 4-3 SAC) also plays Pinecrest at home and Hoke County on the road. Those matches are slated for 5 p.m.

Boys’ soccer seeking next win

A pair of draws in the past two matches put a stop to Richmond’s season-long skid earlier this month.

Now the Raiders (1-8-2, 0-2-1 SAC) will eye the win column with one conference and one non-conference contest this week.

First will be a trip to Lee County High School (4-7, 1-2 SAC) Monday, followed by a visit from Southern Wayne High School (2-6) Thursday.

Monday’s match will begin at 7 p.m. and Thursday’s varsity-only match is set for 6 p.m.

The JV Raiders (5-4-2, 2-0-1 SAC) will only play at Lee County Monday, beginning at 5 p.m.

Girls’ tennis starts penultimate week of season

After a three-match week last week, the Richmond girls’ tennis team (3-5, 3-5 SAC) is approaching the end of its regular-season schedule.

With two more matches this week, the Lady Raiders will travel to Union Pines High School Tuesday and host Lee County Thursday.

Singles matches will start at 4 p.m. and doubles action will follow.

Cross country teams return after week off

Rain last week didn’t allow the Richmond boys’ and girls’ cross country teams to compete.

The Raiders and Lady Raiders will make up their meet at Lee County Tuesday. Also running in the meet will be Pinecrest.

The first race will begin at 5 p.m. and be followed by the second race at 5:30 p.m.

Rivalry week set for Raider football

The forecast is predicting rain for this week’s varsity and junior varsity football games.

Entering the second week of SAC play, the Raiders will meet their 4A rival Pinecrest. Richmond (3-2, 1-0 SAC) has won its last two games and is seeking its first victory over the Patriots (4-0) since 2021.

Kickoff in Southern Pines is tentatively set for 7:30 p.m. Friday but may change based on the weather.

The JV Raiders (4-1, 1-0 SAC), winners of their last four games, will host Pinecrest (3-1) Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The Richmond Observer will publish a preview article for the varsity matchup later this week.
