ROCKINGHAM —  With six of its 10 regular-season games now in the books, the Richmond Senior High School football program is one of two teams still with an undefeated record in Sandhills Athletic Conference play.

Helping the Raiders stay unbeaten last week were six players, all of whom were recognized as Richmond’s “players of the week.”

At the close of Monday’s practice, head coach Brad Denson attributed the Raiders’ 36-7 victory over Pinecrest High School to the whole team, but more specifically these six players.

It was the first time this season that six players were named. After each of the first five games, just five players were tabbed.

The players of the week are:

Offense: Chance Crowder (sophomore running back)

Defense: AJ Covington (senior defensive back) and K’Mauri Morgan (senior linebacker)

Special Teams: Billy West (senior kicker)

Practice: Jermaine Bright (junior linebacker)

Weight Room: Eric McCollum (junior running back)

As part of their recognition, which is sponsored by Top Guns Strength and Performance gym, the six Raiders were called up in front of the team and each received a t-shirt.

Denson and the Richmond football staff select each week’s players based on performance in their respective area.
