ROCKINGHAM — Extending its winning streak to five games, the Richmond Senior High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team defeated Lee County on Wednesday.
Using 10 scorers, the JV Raiders cruised to a 61-34 win. It was the second time in two games that Richmond had double-digit scorers against the JV Yellow Jackets.
Sophomore guard David McNair tallied a game-high 19 points, while freshman Raymond Knotts added 9 points. McNair scored five points through the first three quarters before adding 14 points in the final stanza.
Sophomore center Jada Zimmerman notched 8 points, freshman guard Keidreion Crump netted 7 points and sophomore forward Toby McInnis chipped in 6 points.
Freshmen Jarah Cook and Keyonta Davis both finished with 3 points, while fellow freshmen Jordan Bostick, Ahaiver McDonald and Jason Walker contributed 2 points apiece.
The JV Raiders started the game on a 7-0 run, featuring four points from McNair on a layup and jumper. McInnis added a free throw and McDonald scored his two points on a steal and transition basket.
Knotts added the final three points in the quarter with a bucket and a foul, and the JV Raiders took a 10-5 lead into the second.
A 19-11 stretch of scoring by the Raiders opened the game up in the second frame. Zimmerman started with a pair of free throws and later added two putbacks. Crump hit a three-pointer from the right side, connected on a free throw and splashed down another triple from the left corner.
Davis and Knotts added to the 29-16 halftime lead with one three-pointer each, coming from opposite sides of the floor.
Richmond was outscored 12-8 in the third. McInnis collected his final five points on a drive, a putback and a free throw.
A bucket from Zimmerman capped his scoring and McNair added a free throw. After three, the JV Raiders led 37-28.
Richmond’s highest-scoring quarter was the fourth, seeing the team’s final 24 points fall through the cylinder. McNair’s 14 points came on three triples, a field goal and three free throws. He went on a 14-0 run all by himself in the first 2:05 of the quarter.
Knotts completed an old-fashioned three-point play for his last three points. Cook scored his points on a bucket and free throw, and both Bostick and Walker scored from close range.
Lee County managed just six points in the fourth quarter.
The JV Raiders (12-5, 8-2 SAC) will host Scotland on Friday at 6 p.m. in the regular-season finale.
