ROCKINGHAM — An elderly homeless man was jailed after allegedly causing property damage at Place of Grace and exposing himself.
Deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday served warrants, taken out by shelter officials at the magistrate’s office, on 71-year-old Joe Dennis Hampton.
According to the warrants, Hampton damaged a wall and carpet inside the building and exposed his genitals while in the parking lot.
Hampton is charged with second-degree trespassing, injury to real property and indecent exposure, all misdemeanors.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $500 secured bond.
Online records show Hampton has no other pending charges or prior convictions in North Carolina.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
