ROCKINGHAM — County health officials announced Monday morning that they were notified of a second COVID-related death from Sunday.
According to a press release, the patient died in a hospital outside Richmond County. The patient who was reported on Sunday was at a healthcare facility in the county.
27 residents have now died due to complications with the coronavirus, according to the Richmond County Health Department.
Those reported in the past two days now make eight for the month of October. Seven were reported for September.
The 27 residents have ranged in age from 31 to 95 years old: nine have been 80 or older; nine have been in their 60s; six in their 70s; two in their 50s; and one who was 31.
The race and gender breakdown is as follows: three African American females, five African American males, 12 Caucasian females and seven Caucasian males.
Most patients have died in a hospital, although four were in a healthcare facility and one was outside a healthcare setting, reports show.
It is not known if any of the patients had underlying conditions.
According to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, there had been 3,934 COVID-related deaths across the state as of Oct. 18. Johns Hopkins University reports there have been 219,680 COVID-related deaths in the U.S. and 1,114,715 globally.
