ROCKINGHAM — A man with a history of theft is accused of breaking into a home and stealing three items over the weekend.
According to an arrest warrant, 39-year-old Michael Charles Knight, of Hamlet, broke a glass window and entered a home on Benji Road outside of Rockingham May 1-2.
Knight allegedly stole a 32-inch Roku television, an Apple iPad and a toy gun. He was arrested May 3 and charged with one felony count each of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering, and one misdemeanor count of injury to real property.
Knight was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond and his scheduled to appear in court May 20.
Jail records show Knight is also charged with two counts of violating a domestic violence protection order and another county of breaking and entering, which carries an additional $2,500 secured bond.
Online court records show Knight has pending felony charges of financial card theft and obtaining property by false pretenses, with a July 1 court date.
Knight has multiple previous convictions for breaking and entering and theft dating back 15 years, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.
In 2006-07, Knight was convicted of both felony and misdemeanor larceny, larceny of bank notes, financial card theft and two counts of breaking and entering motor vehicles. He spent a total of nine months of that two-year time period behind bars.
Knight was also convicted in 2012 of larceny of a motor vehicle; 2013 of felony larceny, resulting in a six-month incarceration; and 2015 of larceny after breaking and entering.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
