ROCKINGHAM — A man is facing a criminal charge for allegedly setting fire to his own home last week.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a structure fire on Glenmore Drive around 11:18 p.m. June 1, according to court documents.
The owner of the mobile home, 39-year-old Kenneth Ryan Roller, was reportedly sitting in a lawn chair watching the fire.
When questioned by the responding deputy, Roller allegedly admitted to setting the fire, saying, “I smoked crack cocaine all night last night and decided that I needed to burn down my house.”
Investigators obtained a search warrant the following day and seized a can of wood and fire debris, according to court documents.
Roller was arrested on a magistrate’s order and charged with a single felony count of fraudulently burning a dwelling.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail, where he remains under a $15,000 secured bond. Roller is scheduled to appear in court June 17.
Online records show Roller has no other pending charges.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Roller has twice been convicted of driving while impaired in Richmond County — first in 2011 and again in 2013.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
