Defendant facing additional charges in child sex crime investigation

ROCKINGHAM — A man already in jail on charges related to sex crimes has been served again.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced July 30 that 54-year-old Jose Antonio Aranda Olvera has been charged with three additional counts of first-degree sexual offense with a child.

Olvera is being held on a $100,000 secured bond, as well as an immigration detainer.

Online records with the Richmond County Jail show Olvera was first booked in late 2022 on three counts of first-degree sex offense with a child. However, records appear to show that case has been dismissed.

There seems to be a discrepancy between jail records and online court records.

Jail records show Olvera was charged in February 2023 with first-degree sexual offense and in June that year with two counts of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult. However, court records show the defendant is charged with three counts of the latter.

Those cases are currently in Richmond County Superior Court and records show Olvera was scheduled to have a court appearance on July 29.
