ROCKINGHAM — A Richmond County man is facing sexual assault charges for an incident that allegedly happened over the summer.
According to warrants, 46-year-old Richard Paul Vuncannon Sr., of Ellerbe, had sex with a woman against her will and touched her breasts on Aug. 11.
Vuncannon is accused of assaulting the same woman on Oct. 26 by pushing her down from behind, causing her to hit the curb and bust her lip.
The warrant for the sexual assault charges was issued on Oct. 29.
Vuncannon was arrested Nov. 22. He is charged with second-degree forceable rape, sexual battery and assault on a female, and is being held without bond on the rape charges and a $2,000 secured bond on the assault charge.
Records show Vuncannon is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 12 on the rape charges and Jan. 10 on the assault charge.
Vuncannon appears to have no prior convictions in North Carolina.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
