ROCKINGHAM — A man on parole after serving time on a drug charge is accused of trying to pass off a fraudulent sample for a drug screening.
According to a magistrate’s order, 41-year-old Hank Lee Dixon, of Wilmington Street in Hamlet, attempted to “foil and defeat a drug screening test” by substituting the sample on Aug. 18.
Dixon was released from prison April 18, having received a post-release sentence in November 2020 from a March 2020 conviction of delivering or selling a Schedule II controlled substance, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction. He was given a split sentence in that case stemming from 2019.
His parole was scheduled to end Jan. 13, 2022.
Dixon is charged with a single misdemeanor count of defrauding a drug or alcohol test. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 9.
Less than a month before his release, records show Dixon was cited with an infraction of substance possession.
Dixon is currently at Craven Correctional Institute, having been returned from parole Aug. 24, records show.
His only prior conviction was for a single misdemeanor count of injury to real property in 2000, according to state records.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
