Hamlet man charged with forcible rape

HAMLET — A Richmond County man is accused of recording a rape.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Anthony Chandler Fann, of Tarlton Road, Hamlet, had sex with an unwilling participant, recorded the act on video and sent it to someone else.

Deputies arrested Fann on Thursday and charged him with second-degree forcible rape and desiminating obscenity.

Fann was also served with outstanding failure to appear warrants from Montgomery, Wayne and Onslow counties, according to the sheriff’s office.

He was booked into the Richmond County Jail and is being held under a combined $179,500 secured bond. Fann’s court date on the local charges is scheduled for May 14.

Online court records show Fann has the following pending charges:

  • Montgomery County –  one misdemeanor count of resisting a public officer
  • Onslow County – two felony counts of trafficking in opium or heroin; one felony count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver heroin; one misdemeanor count each of possession of up to a half-ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Wayne County – a traffic citation for having an expired registration or tag

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Fann has no prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
