Officers with the Hamlet Police Department reportedly found 34-year-old Michael Anthony Murchison II slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle in the Speedway gas station parking lot around 12:27 a.m. Thursday.

(Note: Jail records show his last name spelled as “Murchinson,” but state records show both spellings.)

Police searched the vehicle and reportedly found: 2.7 grams of crack cocaine; 4.6 grams of methamphetamine; 2.76 grams of fentanyl; 10 grams of buprenorphine; five Xanax bars; and two Oxycontin pills.

Murchison was arrested and booked into the Richmond County Jail at 3:23 a.m.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Murchison was first convicted in 2006 on two counts of larceny after breaking and entering and one count each of felony breaking and entering and second-degree burglary in Scotland County.

His probation was revoked in 2009 when he was convicted in Richmond County of possession of a firearm by a felon and he was imprisoned from April 13, 2009-Jan. 20, 2011.

Murchison was later convicted of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance in 2017. His probation was revoked the following year and he spent three months behind bars.
