Hamlet Police charge man with gas station robbery

HAMLET— A man accused of robbing a local gas station is also charged with stealing a gun.

Justin Batton Williams, 31, was identified by investigators of the Hamlet Police Department, with help from the community, as a suspect in the Oct. 17 robbery of the Speedway gas station in Hamlet.

Police, working with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, executed a search warrant of Williams’ home and vehicle on Oct. 21, according to a HPD Facebook post.

Williams was arrested and charged by HPD with robbery with a dangerous weapon and booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $65,000 secured bond.

Jail records show Williams is also being held on an additional $15,000 secured bond for a charge of larceny of a firearm by the RCSO.

Williams is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 10 on both criminal charges.

Online court records show Williams also has pending traffic infractions of exceeding safe speed and failing to maintain lane control.

Williams appears to have no previous criminal convictions in North Carolina or neighboring South Carolina counties, according to online records.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
