Hoke County man charged in Rockingham gun store break-in

ROCKINGHAM — A Hoke County man is accused of breaking into a local gun store.

According to investigators with the Rockingham Police Department, 20-year-old Jemareontae Keywan Barrett, of Raeford, was one of several suspects who broke into Paratus Outfitters on Fayetteville Road.

Police also reportedly recovered a truck that had been stolen in Hoke County.

Barrett was arrested on July 15 and charged with one felony count each of: breaking and entering; possession of burglary tools; injury to a building, fence or wall; possession of a stolen motor vehicle; and conspiracy.

He is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $300,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 27.

The case is still under investigation as police look for additional suspects.

Online court records show Barrett has a pending charge in Hoke County of possession of a stolen firearm from 2022, as well as traffic citations for speeding and driving with a revoked license earlier this year.

A news report from 2022 indicated that Barrett had been arrested in Hoke County and served with outstanding warrants from Lee County. Charges included conspiracy, attempted breaking and entering of a building and 20 counts of larceny of a firearm, however, those charges are not currently reflected in state court records.

Barrett appears to have no other previous convictions, according to records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
