Investigators identify body of Moore County man found under car near Ellerbe

ELLERBE — A man found dead underneath a car earlier this week has been identified.

The Southern Pines Pilot reported Thursday evening that the body of 35-year-old Danny Joe Britt Jr., of Moore County, was found underneath a Dodge Stratus on Tuesday off of Sandhill Game Management Road.

Britt was identified by his fingerprints, the Pilot reported, citing Moore County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Richard Maness.

According to the Pilot, Britt was last seen June 15 at a convenience store in Eagle Springs. Investigators with the RCSO said he was reported missing the following day.

Investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said earlier this week that it appeared Britt had been trying to take the catalytic converter off of the car when the jack collapsed and he was pinned underneath.

Judging by the condition of the body, RCSO Maj. Jay Childers said it appeared it had been there for several weeks.
