Man charged for allegedly firing shots in Little Philadelphia community

ROCKINGHAM — A man is facing multiple charges related to a shooting earlier this month.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, several victims had reported that multiple shots were fired on Hawkins Lane, in the Little Philadelphia community just northeast of Rockingham, on June 6.

The sheriff’s office said several individuals had to take cover to keep from being shot and multiple vehicles were struck.

The suspect, 19-year-old Aric Lamont Ray Jr., of Rockingham, was arrested Wednesday, June 19, with help from the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

Ray is charged with: assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill; discharging a weapon into an occupied property; going armed to the terror of the people; and two counts of injury to personal property.

According to the press release issue June 24, Ray was booked into the Richmond County Jail without bond. However, jail records currently show is being held on a $1 million secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 11.

Investigators say the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be pending.

Online court records show Ray has two counts of carrying a concealed gun pending from earlier this year, as well as several traffic infractions.

Ray appears to have no prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
