Man charged with incest, rape in Richmond County

ROCKINGHAM — A man was booked into the Richmond County Jail last week on multiple sex crime charges.

Records show 37-year-old Joaquin Lopez Guijosa is being held on a $1 million secured bond on the following charges:

  • Three counts of incest with a child older than 13;
  • Three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child;
  • Two counts of second-degree rape; and
  • One count of second-degree forcible rape.

State law defines incest as carnal intercourse with one’s grandparent or grandchild, parent or child or stepchild or legally adopted child, brother or sister of the half or whole blood, or uncle, aunt, nephew, or niece.

Guijosa was booked around 12:46 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, according to online jail records, which show the charging agency as the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

The charges did not yet appear in online court records Monday afternoon, however jail records show his court date as Sept. 8.

Guijosa does not appear to have any other pending charges or prior convictions in North Carolina, according to an online records search.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

NOTE: The amount of the bond has been corrected. 2:54 p.m. 8-29-22
