ROCKINGHAM — An Anson County man is facing charges after allegedly stealing a trailer in Richmond County.
According to a post from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched Tuesday May 7 to a home on Rosalyn Road in Cordova, responding to a call of a stolen utility trailer.
A witness reportedly told the deputies that the suspect, a white male driving a red truck, pulled into a yard and hooked up a 14-foot utility trailer — then drove off with the wheel jack dragging the ground.
An investigator reviewing surveillance video reportedly spotted the truck and trailer on Ledbetter Street.
During the investigation, RCSO contacted the Anson County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators there were reportedly able to identify the truck and driver and the trailer was found and recovered from an address in Morven.
The trailer was returned to the owner, according to the sheriff’s office, and investigators obtained a warrant for the arrest of 36-year-old Christopher Scott Derulle of Morven.
On Thursday, May 9, an investigator reportedly spotted Derulle pulling into a parking lot on Broad Avenue in Rockingham. The investigator conducted a traffic stop and arrested Derulle on charges of felony larceny and injury to personal property.
Derulle was reportedly booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $5,000 secured bond. Online jail records appear to show he has since made bail.
Online court records show no pending charges for Derulle in North Carolina — or the neighboring South Carolina counties of Chesterfield or Marlboro — including those aforementioned. His court date is also unknown at the time of this writing.
Derulle also appears to have no prior convictions in the state or the nearby South Carolina counties.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
