HAMLET — Police may soon have an arrest in a shooting from earlier in the week.
According to Maj. Hudson Chitwood with the Hamlet Police Department, officers heard several shots fired in the area of Seaboard Street around 10 p.m. April 7.
Several nearby residents also called to report the gunfire, he said.
When the officers got to the 400 block, they reportedly found multiple shell casings in the street and in the yard of a home that was struck by bullets.
The officers then fanned out to try to find the shooters, but were unsuccessful, Chitwood said. However, they were able to interview witnesses and obtain video from the scene.
The department posted still images from the video to its Facebook page, asking for the public’s help identifying the suspects.
Chitwood confirmed that one of the suspects fired a handgun while the other shot a rifle.
No injuries were reported, Chitwood said, but the house did sustain damage.
The case is still under investigation, though Chitwood said charges are expected to be filed “very soon.”
