RCSO: Child found safe in Brunswick County, mother charged

ROCKINGHAM — Investigators say a child taken by her mother from a Richmond County home Monday has been found safely near the coast.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Elisabeth Marie Cribb, who does not have custody of her child, took the child on Monday. The child’s father has custody, deputies say.

Investigators say that Cribb and the child were found Tuesday in Leland, just south of Wilmington.

Cribb is being held in the Brunswick County Jail under a $6,000 secured bond.

She is charged with abduction of a child, breaking and entering, assault and battery, according to the sheriff’s office.

Online court records show pending misdemeanor marijuana and child abuse charges for an Elisabeth Marie Cribb in New Hanover County, but the RO was unable to confirm if it is the same person.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Cribb has no prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
