RCSO: East Rockingham shooting leads to wreck near Cordova

ROCKINGHAM — Investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s office are trying to identify a gunman who shot a man who eventually wrecked his car just before midnight.

According to the RCSO, the victim was sitting in line at a drive-thru convenience store on Mill Road in East Rockingham late Monday when he started shooting gel pellets from a toy gun at the car behind him.

The occupant of the car allegedly got out and approached the victim’s car and fired a round into the victim’s leg.

The victim, who has not been named, reportedly drove off and crashed his car on Old Cheraw Highway, north of Cordova.

The case is still under investigation.
