RCSO: Fentanyl found on straw of shoplifting suspect

ROCKINGHAM — A potential shoplifting suspect was allegedly caught with a straw containing drug residue.

According to a March 8 Facebook post from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded March 5 to a call about a shoplifter at the Family Dollar store on Airport Road in East Rockingham.

While speaking to the suspect, 33-year-old Brandy Ann Taylor Pohlig, of Cordova, deputies reportedly noticed a straw with white residue sticking out of Pohlig’s pocket. She allegedly told the deputies the straw contained fentanyl.

Deputies arrested Pohling and charged her with a felony count of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. They also issued her a citation for a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pohlig also reportedly had an outstanding order for arrest for failure to appear in court. Online court records show she has a pending misdemeanor charge of injury to personal property.

Investigators say Pohlig was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $2,000 secured bond, but it appears she has since been released. She is scheduled to appear in court March 21.

Online records appear to show Pohlig has no other pending charges or prior convictions in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
