ROCKINGHAM — A woman with an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court is now facing drug charges following a traffic stop.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy conducted a traffic stop Tuesday, March 5 for a fictitious registration on Eason Drive.
During the stop, the deputy reportedly discovered that one of the passengers, 45-year-old Crystal Martin, had an outstanding warrant.
Although the press release, posted to the RCSO Facebook page March 8, doesn’t mention what the prior charge was, online records appear to indicate Martin was charged with a misdemeanor count of injury to property to obtain nonferrous metals earlier this year.
While being processed, deputies reportedly asked Martin if she had anything on her person, which she reportedly denied.
However, detention officers reportedly found an unspecified quantity of heroin and methamphetamine, as well as a razor and a straw.
Martin was charged with: possession of a controlled substance on prison or jail premises, possession of heroin; possession of methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a combined $35,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court March 21.
Online court records show Martin also has several pending traffic offenses.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Martin has been previously convicted twice of driving while impaired, in 2000 and 2016.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
