RCSO: Meth found on woman booked into Richmond County jail on outstanding warrants

ROCKINGHAM — An alleged shoplifter with outstanding warrants was reportedly also caught with meth.

Richmond County deputies responded to a call of two women shoplifting from an unnamed retail store in Ellerbe on Saturday, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office.

The store manager reportedly told the first responding deputy that one of the female suspects had left but another — 33-year-old Ashley Nicole Moya, of Ellerbe — was still inside.

According to the post, the deputy learned that Moya had outstanding warrants in both Richmond and Cumberland counties.

As Moya was being searched during her arrest, a deputy reportedly found a glass smoking pipe in her bag.

Later, a female detention officer reportedly found a bag of meth while processing Moya into the Richmond County Jail.

Jail records list Moya’s charges as:

  • Richmond County: possession of methamphetamine; possession of a controlled substance on prison or jail premises; order for arrest for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance; two counts of obtaining property by false pretense; financial card theft; possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Cumberland County: order for arrest for shoplifting or concealment of goods; possession of stolen goods.

It appears she wasn’t charged for the intital suspicion of shoplifting.

As of 3:30 p.m. Monday, Moya was still being held on a combined $16,500 secured bond. She has court appearances scheduled for Oct. 6, 19 and Nov. 3.

Moya appears to have no previous convictions in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
