ROCKINGHAM — One suspect in a robbery-turned-shooting at a convenience store earlier this month is in custody and another is still on the loose.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Jordan Leon Tyson and 22-year-old Gabriel Bracey, both of Rockingham, were involved in a Feb. 2 robbery at the Shell station on U.S. 220.
Bracey was injured during the incident and taken to a hospital in South Carolina, but left after treatment and is still on the run, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators arrested Tyson on Feb. 16 and charged him with: robbery with a dangerous weapon; possession of a stolen firearm; attempted felony larceny; and assault by pointing a gun.
Tyson was booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held on a $500,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court March 7.
Investigators are still seeking Bracey. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.
Tyson has several pending traffic citations, but no pending criminal charges or prior convictions, according to online state records
Bracey, on the other hand, does have a criminal history.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Bracey was convicted in 2017 on eight counts of misdemeanor larceny and one count each of assault on a handicapped person, breaking and entering and damage to property in Union County.
The following year, Bracey was convicted of common law robbery and felony conspiracy in Anson County. His probation was revoked and he spent nearly eight months in prison. Bracey’s parole ended on Dec. 15, 2023.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
