ROCKINGHAM — A suspect was reportedly shot during a robbery at a local gas station Friday evening.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, two suspects robbed the Shell station at the intersection of U.S. 220 and Billy Covington Road between Rockingham and Ellerbe.
Investigators say gunshots were fired and deputies found one of the alleged suspects with gunshot wounds behind the store. That suspect was reportedly flown to a trauma center for treatment.

The second suspect fled the scene and had not been located as of 8:45 p.m. Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office.
Chief Deputy Jay Childers said the “investigation is still very active.”
