Richmond County church bell stolen, sheriff offers reward

ROCKINGHAM — Sheriff Mark Gulledge is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest in the case of a stolen church bell.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the brick housing for a large church bell at Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church, on the corner of Mizpah and Sandhill roads was destroyed and the bell was stolen.

Investigators say the incident happened sometime between 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30 and 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31.

“Sheriff Gulledge is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual(s) responsible for this theft,” reads a press release issued Tuesday. The release does not state the amount of the reward.
