Richmond County deputies accuse man of having stolen truck

ROCKINGHAM — A man with a pending misdemeanor larceny charge is now accused of having a stolen truck.

Deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Billy Covington Road Sunday, according to a press release.

The caller reportedly told deputies that he had reported his vehicle stolen to the Rockingham Police Department, and had seen it at another residence on the road.

When deputies went to check it out, they reportedly saw 55-year-old Tony Wayne Maudlin walking away from the vehicle.

Maudlin reportedly told the deputies that he had bought the tuck from his father, “but refused to provide any information.”

Deputies arrested Maudlin and charged him with possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He was also served with an order for arrest for failure to appear in court for misdemeanor larceny.

Maudlin is being held in the Richmond County Jail under a combined $10,250 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court April 28.

Online records show Maudlin has no other pending charges nor prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
