ELLERBE — Two teens are accused of trying to rob a woman outside her home late Tuesday night.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a home on Main Street in Ellerbe around 10:50 p.m. Dec. 6 in response to an attempted armed robbery.

The alleged victim reportedly told the first deputy to arrive on scene that she had pulled in her driveway when two males approached her vehicle. One allegedly tried to open her door and the other reportedly pointed a gun at her.

She then started her vehicle and started yelling, and the two suspects ran off, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators say the woman knew the names of the suspects and where they lived.

Deputies reportedly went to the home and found both suspects — one 15 years old and the other 17.

Investigators obtained a search warrant and reportedly found two handguns, one of which was reported stolen in Scotland County.

The two teens were taken into custody and committed under juvenile secure custody orders, according to the sheriff’s office. Their names are not being released because of their ages.

Both are charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a handgun by a minor.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
