Richmond County deputies seek individuals suspected of illegal dumping

ROCKINGHAM — Investigators are asking for help in locating a truck allegedly used for illegal dumping.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office on Friday posted a photo of a truck and asked for help identifying the owners and occupants of the truck.

According to the sheriff’s office, the truck is suspected in an illegal dumping investigation. The dumping reportedly occurred on Old Laurinburg Road and Peggy Mill Road outside of Hamlet.

Anyone with information on the occupants is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.

Illegal dumping, in addition to trash being thrown from vehicles, has been a problem in Richmond County for years.

As of September 2023, county and state workers 78.39 tons of garbage — exceeding 2022’s total by 14.74 tons.

The county investigated three illegal dumpsites in October 2023 and one each in November, December and January.
