HAMLET — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the county’s first homicide of the year after a man was found shot dead in his home three weeks ago.
Deputies and crews from Hamlet Fire and Rescue responded to a home on Springhill Church Road Sunday, Jan. 28 in reference to a call of “someone possibly deceased inside a residence,” according to the sheriff’s office.
Once inside, deputies reportedly found the body of 29-year-old Damian Brayboy, of the home.
Investigators say Brayboy “appeared to have suffered from gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased on the scene.”
The scene was processed by investigators who are reportedly working the case as a homicide.
The sheriff’s office issued a press release regarding the incident on Feb. 9. As of Feb. 20, there were no updates in the case.
A private service was held for Brayboy on Feb. 16, according to his obituary from Nelson Funeral Service.
