Richmond County man charged with sex crimes against Wisconsin victim

ROCKINGHAM — A Richmond County man is accused of sex crimes with an alleged victim from the Midwest.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, local detectives were contacted by investigators in Green Bay, Wisconsin, reporting that a victim in that jurisdiction was alleging an incident that took place in Richmond County.

RCSO investigators reportedly obtained warrants to search the Rockingham home of 76-year-old John Daniel Roberts home, and later for Roberts’ arrest.

Roberts was arrested Friday, Feb. 9 and is charged with one felony count each of taking indecent liberties with a child and statutory sex offense with a child by an adult. He was booked into the Richmond County Jail with no bond, however he did not appear in online jail records on Feb. 14.

Roberts is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, Feb. 15.

Online records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Roberts has no prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
