Richmond County mother accused of giving child LSD

ROCKINGHAM — A woman is facing child abuse and drug charges after allegedly giving her child acid.

According to an arrest warrant, 31-year-old Desjonne Kalea Dawkins recently gave her child LSD which resulted in “emotional injury to the child.” The child, according to the warrant, is under the age of 16.

Dawkins is also accused of trafficking the psychedelic drug. While the exact amount is not listed, the warrant states Dawkins was in possession of more than 100 but fewer than 500 dosage units of LSD.

Deputies reportedly also found a small amount of marijuana and a grinder, two smoking pipes and a “marijuana tray.”

Dawkins was arrested Sunday, Nov. 17 — the listed offense date — and charged with the following: negligent child abuse with serious bodily injury; trafficking in LSD; possession of LSD; delivering LSD; possession of up to an ounce and a half of marijuana; and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. The latter two charges are misdemeanors, the former four are felonies.

She is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $300,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 21.

Dawkins appears to have no prior criminal convictions or other pending criminal charges in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
