Richmond County woman accused of sexual abuse in 2018

ROCKINGHAM — A woman is in the Richmond County Jail, accused of sexual abuse six years ago.

Online jail records show 44-year-old Crystal Gail Diaz was booked June 4 on charges of felony child abuse through a sexual act and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

The date of the incident is listed as Jan. 4, 2018 and charges were filed in 2022.

No other details are known about the allegations as warrants were not available in the Richmond County Clerk of Superior Court’s office on June 7.

The portion of the statute Diaz is charged with under felony child abuse reads: “Any parent or legal guardian of a child less than 16 years of age who commits or allows the commission of any sexual act upon the child is guilty of a Class D felony.”

Diaz is being held on a $50,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court June 27.

She appears to have no other pending charges or prior convictions in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
