ROCKINGHAM — There has been yet another shooting in a neighborhood making the second in less than a week.

Investigators with the Rockingham Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a shooting around 3 p.m. April 3 “in the area of” JFK Drive.

No other information is available at this time.

This is the second daytime shooting in that area within the past week.

One person was shot and killed just after 5 p.m. March 28 on Palisade Circle, just one street away from JFK Drive.

Later that evening, investigators arrested 34-year-old Tommy Lee Smith and charged him in that case with an open count of murder, as well as a count of discharging a firearm in city limits.

Smith is still being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court April 11. All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A juvenile was killed and a man was injured in a Feb. 14 shooting on JFK Drive. Police have yet to release names of the victims and say that case is still under investigation.
