Rockingham Police charge murder convict for allegedly shooting into occupied truck

ROCKINGHAM — A convicted murderer is currently accused of trying to kill two men in late April.

According to arrest Warrants, 50-year-old Daniel Maurice Wall, of Rockingham, fired shots into a 2003 Chevy Silverado on Cauthen Drive April 29.

The vehicle was occupied by two males, according to warrants, and the gunshots caused more than $200 in damage to the truck.

Warrants for Wall’s arrest were issued the same day as the shooting and were served May 16 in Mecklenburg County.

Wall was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 4:45 p.m. June 5, according to online records.

He is charged with: two counts of attempted first-degree murder; discharging a firearm into an occupied property; discharging a firearm in city limits; possession of a firearm by a felon; and injury to personal property.

Wall is being held on a combined $2 million bond and his next court appearance is scheduled for June 10.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Wall was convicted in 1997 of second-degree murder. He was released from prison in 2015, but in 2017 was convicted on three counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied property and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, for which he served two years behind bars.

Wall was first convicted on two counts of misdemeanor assault in 1996.

He appears to have no other pending charges in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
