ROCKINGHAM — Police are conducting an active homicide investigation following a fatal shooting less than a mile from the station.

Not many details are available at this time, but investigators say one person was shot and killed after 5 p.m. around Palisade Circle.

No other injuries were reported and no other information is available, including the victim’s name, age or gender.

That area has been a hot spot for shootings in recent years.

David Giovanni Boseman, 25, was killed while sitting in a Chevrolet Malibu on Palisade Circle in January of 2021. Investigators charged 22-year-old Maquis Tavon Quick, 22, of Bennettsville, South Carolina, turned himself in on Jan. 22 after police announced he was wanted for murder.

Quick is still being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He is also charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied property inflicting serious injury, which carries a $40,000 secured bond.

Just a few months after that shooting, Tito Jermaine Ray was charged in the murder of a teen on Palisade Circle. Online records show Ray was convicted last year of robbery with a dangerous weapon in an unrelated case, but do not reflect the charges in the homicide.

Another juvenile was killed and a man was injured in a shooting on Feb. 14 of this year on nearby JFK Drive.

Two people were injured in a May 2023 shooting on JFK.

There have also been several shootings on nearby Hunter Circle.
