ROCKINGHAM — Police are investigating two gun-related incidents that happened in the city within two hours of each other.

According to investigators with the Rockingham Police Department, the first incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. at the gas station on U.S. 74 W Bus.

The alleged victim was reportedly open-carrying a handgun as he was walking into the store. Someone walking out reportedly noticed the gun and tried to pull it from the holster.

Investigators say the two men tussled for a bit until the alleged aggressor gained possession of the gun and took off running.

The alleged victim pulled another gun from his waistband and stood near the suspect’s vehicle, which was occupied, according to police.

The suspect walked back and returned the firearm to the owner and left, traveling west on the highway, police say, adding that no shots were fired.

That case is being investigated as a strong-arm robbery.

Two hours later, police responded to a reported shooting at Bojangles.

According to investigators, the domestic incident started at the La Cosa Nostra Lounge when a woman was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend in the parking lot.

A bouncer broke up the fight and the woman left, but police say the man followed her. She reportedly pulled into the Bojangles parking lot and the man opened fire.

Investigators say 11 shell casings were recovered from the scene, with three rounds striking the car. No injuries were reported.

The suspect then left the scene, according to police.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, both cases were still under investigation and no arrests had been made.
