ROCKINGHAM — Several people were arrested and detained Thursday following a “lengthy” investigation into drug activity at a local apartment complex.

Detectives with the Rockingham Police Department’s Vice/Narcotics Unit executed search warrants at three apartments on Cauthen Drive, according to a media release posted on Facebook early Thursday afternoon.

RPD was assisted by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Based on photos included with the post, it appears the multi-agency operation was staged from Hinson Lake.

“Chief (George) Gillenwater would like to extend his appreciation to all of the agencies involved, in making this a safe and successful operation,” the post reads.

The department has not yet announced the names of any of those charged, what the charges are or what may have been seized from the apartments or suspects.

It doesn’t appear any of the suspects have yet been booked into the Richmond County Jail, as of 2 p.m.

More information is expected later Thursday or on Friday.
