Rockingham Police reportedly find weed, loaded gun, cash on Laurinburg man

ROCKINGHAM — A call of a “suspicious person” led to drug charges being filed against a Scotland County man.

According to a Facebook post from the Rockingham Police Department, officers responded to a call of a “suspicious person” in the parking lot of the Save More convenience store on East Broad Avenue Jan. 28.

After officers made contact with Trent Oxendine Jr. of Laurinburg, they reportedly noticed a jar of marijuana in his hoodie pocket.

Officer searched Oxendine and reportedly found and recovered a “large sum of cash,” a small number of pills and a loaded handgun.

Oxendine was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance and possession of a concealed weapon.

He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond. He was not listed as being in the jail on Monday.

Online court records show Oxendine has a Feb. 10 court appearance on charges of possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, two counts of simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance on prison or jail premises.

Oxendine has no prior convictions in the state, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
