ROCKINGHAM — A probation absconder was recently served warrants at a local retail store after reportedly failing to appear in court on drug charges.
An incident report from the Rockingham Police Department shows 28-year-old Dusty Wayne Owens, of Rockingham was arrested June 14 at Walmart.
The N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction has Owens listed as an absconder.
Records show Owens is currently on probation for a Feb. 19 conviction on three counts of misdemeanor breaking and entering, one count of felony breaking and entering, one felony count of larceny of firearms, and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Orders for Owens’ arrest had also been issued for failure to appear in court on several drug related charges.
Online court records show Owens has pending charges of possession of methamphetamine; simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance; and two misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Records with the Richmond County Jail show Owens is charged with two counts of failure to appear on a misdemeanor and two counts of failure to appear on a felony.
The incident report shows two misdemeanor probation violations and one felony probation violation.
Owens is scheduled to appear in court July 22 and 29 on the aforementioned drug charges. Jail records also show a court appearance slated for July 12 on two of the failure to appear charges.
He is currently being held under a combined $36,000 secured bond.
State records show Owens’ only other conviction prior to this year was in 2011 on a misdemeanor court of possessing stolen goods.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven in a court of law.
