South Carolina man charged with going armed to the terror of the public in Richmond County

ROCKINGHAM — A South Carolina man is facing gun-related charges following an incident late last week.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call Jan. 14 on Virginia Street, off of N.C. 381 east of Hamlet, “in reference to someone shooting.”

The caller reportedly told responding deputies that his nephew, 46-year-old Henry Monroe Jr., of Greer, South Carolina, pulled up in his yard and started firing a gun, then walked away from the scene.

Deputies reportedly found Monroe down the street. According to the sheriff’s office, Monroe told the deputies he had a handgun in his coat pocket.

Monroe was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and going armed to the terror of the public. He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 27.

Moore has no other pending charges or previous criminal convictions in North Carolina, according to online records with the N.C. Court System and N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

Records from Greenville County, South Carolina show a Henry Moore Jr., born in 1975, was convicted of criminal domestic violence in 2006 and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature in 2014. A kidnapping charge was dismissed in the latter case.

The same Moore has a pending disorderly conduct charge from Jan. 1, records show.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
